Who are we?

The Friends

Hi, I’m Bababoo! My friends and I are so happy for you to join us in our wonderful world of toys and books. Sometimes we’re brave, and sometimes we’re not– but one thing’s for sure, we’re always curious about the world and happy to help each other. We live in a beautiful magical place full of castles, lakes, mountains, rivers, and enchanted forests. My friends and I love going on adventures, such as picking cherries, playing on swings, riding on trains, or even flying up high in our hot air balloon!

Since true friendship transcends back-ground and origin, our group of friends inspire values such as inclusiveness and the power of diversity. Despite the far-flung places we all hail from, we still found our way to each other. Whether on land or sea, via wheelchair or climbing, we make sure that no one ever feels left out.

Friendship is best learned among friends, and that means helping each other out. It’s especially important when you’re feeling anxious or angry. Being a good friend, being brave, and listening to others are important skills for all of us to have. We can learn these skills together by discovering the world and learning lots of new things – like Chakaluka!

Lion Bababoo

Hello, I’m Bababoo! I love to craft things out of wood, especially things that help me go on adventures. Sometimes I get a bit scared, though. Luckily, I have lots of wonderful friends – and when I’m with them, I feel I can do anything! Come join us, I’ll show you our magical home, full of castles, mountains and lakes. Adventures await!

Monkey Yuki

Hellooooooo, how’s everyone doing down there? I’m Yuki van Zuki, and my friends call me the best climber of all time. I can hardly sit still for a second, no matter how hard I try. I’m also famous for being a bit of a know-it-all, too. Whenever I don’t know something, I look it up in my special book for know-it-alls!

Bunny Pippa

Hiya, I’m Pippa Pippolina. I’ve just started school and my favorite subjects are magic and flying. Sometimes when I cast spells, they go a little wrong, but my friends don’t mind because they know I just need a bit of practice! Yesterday, for example, I turned my house into a giant mountain of chocolate pudding. It was the most delicious accident!

Whale Wilma

My name is Wilma Valenta. I’ll keep my story short: I had an accident with a boat, and hurt my fin. My disability means I can no longer swim, but my friends have built me a little wooden wagon, and now I can join them on all their adventures! Pippa also gave me this hat, which looks just like a house. Can you see it? What do you think? It means that wherever I go, I’ll always feel at home. I’m so happy to have found a place where I truly belong.

Elephant Lolo

Bon appetit! Lolo Caserolo’s the name, and baking is my game! Whenever I bake, my kitchen becomes a huge mess, but Pippa has a few magic tricks up her sleeve to clean up with a flick of her bunny ears! My cakes are made with love, plus a super-secret ingredient from my home country. All my friends especially love my five-layer cherry cake with Chakaluka.

Firefly Miss Mali

I’m Firefly Miss Mali and it’s a pleasure to meet you! Bababoo and I are best friends, and one of my favorite spots is the sunny window seat in his workshop. As much as I love to lie there and watch him work, I also love to discover the world. I have a very special talent, which is that I glow in the dark, and light up the night.

Story Book

Little Lion Bababoo wishes with all his heart that he were braver! To help him discover his courage, his best friend Miss Mali takes him on a series of adventures: with Elephant Lolo by his side, Bababoo dares to climb to the very top of a cherry tree. Monkey Yuki van Zuki pushes him on a swing way up high into the sky, and with Bunny Pippa Pippolina’s help, he even enters a mysterious cave in a forest. Bababoo realizes that he can do anything with his friends by his side, and more adventures await!

Bababoo looks for his teddy bear

Bababoo has lost his teddy bear! He’s searched high and low, in his playroom and in the garden, but he can’t find his favorite toy anywhere. Bababoo misses Teddy so much; he’s the perfect partner in hide and seek, or for going on lovely picnics with. Even spaghetti taste better when Teddy is there by his side.
But just as Bababoo prepares to go to bed, there’s a surprise waiting for him…

Little Bunny Pippa Gets Dressed All By Herself

Pippa Pippolina is so excited for visitors today! But first she has to get up and get dressed, so she can play with the little Lion Bababoo, Elephant Lolo and all her other friends. Rain boots and a raincoat make splashing in puddles so much fun. And then? There’ll be a delicious breakfast for all to share!

Little Monkey Yuki loves to play

What does Monkey Yuki love more than anything else in the world? Playing games! And playing with others is always more fun. Luckily, Lion Bababoo, Bunny Pippa Pippolina and all his other friends are coming to visit today. Yuki is already excited for all the games they’re going to play – are you joining in?

Wilma the whale loves her bath

Little Whale Wilma Valenta loves water! Whether it’s a shower straight from an elephant’s trunk, a dip in a lake, or the open ocean … Oh, how Wilma misses the open ocean! That’s why little Lion Bababoo, Elephant Lolo and her other friends are planning a trip for her …It’s going to be the most wonderful day by the seaside!

Every toy comes with its own interactive PlayTales® story, which is based on the main character and its accompanying book.  PlayTales® place the parents at the center of their child’s play experiences,inspiring the whole family. About Us

STEFANO (Creator)

I grew up in both Germany and Italy, and I didn’t have as many toys as other kids around me. Despite that, I can barely remember the few toys I did have. Instead, I have much clearer memories of the people and moments of my childhood: like playing the game Sorry! with my great-grandmother, or the old Italian man who sold ice cream in the piazza, who always had my favorite flavor: lemon. Moments like these are the true gifts of our childhoods.

As a student at the University of Cambridge, studying Technology Policy, I realized that although parents do need digital technologies, above all children need parents who can help them create analogue play moments. That’s why Eliana and I created Bababoo and friends®: to provide intuitive and creative play partners for parents and children. For time together, lasts forever!

ELIANA (Creator)

I grew up in Uruguay. My parents had the philosophy to give my siblings and me rather few but high quality toys. That’s why we took very good care of them and even my children play with some of them today. We always made up stories related to the toys. Today, when I see all the kids playing, in my imagination, I see a photo album with all the wonderful moments me and my friends had together.

After graduating from studying industrial design in Montevideo, Uruguay, I went to Germany. For more than 20 years I have been designing toys for children. It had always been my dream to create my own very special brand of toys that combine playing and reading and inspire children’s imagination to live out great stories. I didn’t just want to create toys, but rather ‘play experiences’. That’s how the early play-concept ‘PlayTales®’ was born. It conveys an educational meaning through Bababoo and his friends. It is an invitation for children and parents to dive together into the fantasy world of Bababoo and his friends, and create lasting memories. For a time together that lasts forever!
